Tribute to a pan jazz pioneer

Raf Roberston Majesty album cover

'Hear what and ting' - Dermot Hussey in Washington pays tribute to  the late Trinidadian jazz pianist, composer, arranger, teacher and producer Raf Robertson who died last year.

From St Benedict’s College in Trinidad to the heights of the jazz industry, Raf Robertson made his mark in the Caribbean, the US and the UK.

During his career, he played with Branford Marsalis, Grover Washington Jnr and Roy Haynes. He was also a musician at Eddy Grant's Ice studio in Barbados and arranged 1980s Barbadian calypso music winners.

Raf did not forget his native Trinidad and he continued to arrange and judge pan music as well as making time to teach at the Tunapuna-based Birdsong Academy in Trinidad.

Raf Roberston died in December 2015 leading to tributes from the jazz and pan world.

Dermot Hussey took time out to celebrate Raf and savour his musical legacy. Sit back and enjoy!
