Suriname has a heritage of people of Amerindian, Creole, Maroon, Indian and Javanese origin. Dutch architecture and language are retained alongside its own Surinamese diversity.
As a member of the Caribbean Community, it will host the Caribbean Festival of Arts, Carifesta later in 2013.
